The challenge

Rapidly establish production in a new market.

Previously, when Miltenyi Biotec—a leading cell and gene therapy equipment developer—had experienced massive growth in contract cell and gene therapy business at their San Jose, CA, facility, they had relied on Kelly® Science & Clinical to source staff. it. So, when they needed to quickly expand production of these life-saving therapies at their headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD, they turned to us again. That meant staffing 11 new cGMP cell processing suites—each requiring at least 14 experienced manufacturing specialists—in one of the most competitive areas in the U.S. for cell therapy talent.

The solution

Science-educated recruiters with local expertise.

 Due to the competitive nature of these roles, we got to work immediately. Drawing on Kelly Science & Clinical’s local market expertise, we assembled a team of recruiters from a variety of surrounding urban feeder markets (including Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Research Triangle Park in North Carolina) to source and recruit 14 level II/III and manager-level cell manufacturing specialists from cell therapy competitors over a two-month time. This allowed Miltenyi to get up and running—and saving lives—in a very short amount of time.

The value

Specialty talent acquisitions double capacity.

Process development and manufacturing teams are full, and the Gaithersburg cell factory is open for business. The talent Kelly acquired will allow Miltenyi to double their capacity for in-demand cell therapy processing for their clients. This is good news for everyone as these therapies go directly to sick patients awaiting treatment.
