Finding 25 Controls Engineers in 8 weeks for a systems integrator.

The challenge

25+ Controls Engineers on-site within just 8 weeks.

The client is a large systems integrator and OEM for Industrial Automation, specializing in the full life cycle planning of automating and assembly processes for customers across manufacturing in major categories like Energy, Medical Device, and Consumer Goods. The company had a massive project for a leader in the Automotive industry to automate the assembly lines for its electric vehicle battery. To stay on schedule, the client needed 25+ additional Controls Engineers onsite within just 8 weeks. Experts at Kelly® Engineering understood the dynamics of the challenge and how to deliver.

The solution

A deep network of Automation talent to redeploy.
Kelly quickly assembled a team of 6 recruiters, 4 talent care pros, and account experts to focus on filling the roles as their only priority. The project required experience in Allen Bradley PLCs, Siemens HMI, and FANUC robotics. From work with similar clients, recruiters had already built a deep network of proven Controls Engineers, PLC Techs, and Robotic Techs who prefer contract work—ready to deploy on  demand.
The team used a traditional contract staffing model, since the length of assignments ranged from just 3 – 4 months to as many as 18, requiring a flexible solution. They also recommended a per-diem allowance for travelers, so they weren’t limited to using local talent. The client’s team booked a hotel, while Kelly managed meal stipends and travel for a
seamless travel experience that took administration off the client.

The value

A flexible way to keep critical business on schedule.

Kelly delivered 27 Controls Engineers within the 8 weeks required, keeping the bigger project on time. The team interviewed, onboarded, and started all candidates using a traditional contract staffing method to accommodate the project’s needs for flexible timing. Ultimately, the client overcame a key obstacle in fulfilling the Automotive giant’s overarching pledge to its own customers—to convert all its fleet to be all-electric by 2035—which is very much in line with the mission at Kelly Engineering: to help solve the world's most critical challenges.
